Dynamic Island might arrive on all iPhone 15 models

If true, this would make Dynamic Island the standard across all the latest iPhones, entirely replacing the notch that Apple first introduced with the iPhone X in 2017, at least until Apple comes up with another design.

The iPhone 14 has only been on the market for a few days, but that isn’t containing the gossip mill from swirling out projections about Apple’s next iPhone.

For instance, supply chain reviewer Ross Young says on Twitter that he hopes Apple to include the Dynamic Island — the notch beneficiary that presently only comes on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max — on all iPhone 15 models, not just the Pro variations.

However, young also indicates that the base iPhone 15 still won’t come with a 120Hz LTPO display that enables the iPhone 14 Pro’s always-on display and snappy ProMotion feedback, citing that the “supply chain can’t support it.”

The Dynamic Island is the black, pill-shaped cutout at the top of the iPhone 14 Pro that houses the camera array. Apple cleverly blended the cutout with the rest of the UI using animations that make the Dynamic Island appear more significant when interacting.

In addition, Dynamic Island displays notifications and will eventually let you monitor Live Activities, like sports scores or the status of your Uber ride, from the top of your screen.

Adding a Dynamic Island to the iPhone 15 could make upgrading to next year’s base model more appealing than making the minor jump from the iPhone 13 to the standard iPhone 14, or as my colleague, Allison Johnson calls it, the “iPhone 13S.”

The iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro are the first iPhones to have a unique style of cutout display called “Dynamic Island.” iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, as agreeably as the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, are sold in the United States drop asset for physical SIM cards.

It is driving them the first iPhone models since the CDMA rendition of the iPhone 4 to not arrive with a discrete SIM card reader.

The Dynamic Island is a reimagining of the sensor “notch” found in previous iPhone models starting with the iPhone X, which in the iPhone 14 Pro is moved to a cutout slightly detached from the top of the screen. It is designed to serve helpful information, like media playback data, hardware, system-level notifications, and other app-specific functionality. These icons may seem like an expansion on either side of the sensors, with the background matching the black color of the screen cutout and emerging to expand it seamlessly.

Dynamic Island can also extend further into the wider iPhone 14 display. For instance, notifications for incoming calls emerge in a banner that prolongs out horizontally from the sensors. At the same time, Face ID indicators drop down vertically from the sensor cutout rather than occurring in the center of the display as on earlier models.

The Dynamic Island can also be tapped to view additional details; for example, ongoing activities like Maps directions or sports scores can be expanded by tapping and holding the area.
