The latest Samsung Galaxy innovation, the Galaxy S23 series mobile phones, was officially unveiled on February 1, 2023.

Every year, Samsung Electronics at Galaxy Unpacked releases a new era of mobile innovation. This year three new phones in Galaxy S series are in the line-up, and each has something different to offer at various price points. The phones will be on sale from February 17, 2023, and are available to preorder directly from Samsung or other retailers. Therefore, if you want to add one of Samsung’s new flagships to your pocket, you are on the right blog. We have compiled all the information you need to acknowledge about Samsung Galaxy S23.

For 2023 in Galaxy S, the series line-up has three devices:

Pocketable Galaxy S23 – The cheapest and smallest phone in the lot.

Larger Galaxy S23+ – Very similar to the regular Galaxy S23 but has a more prominent display and minor internal changes.

Spec-packed Galaxy S23 Ultra – The most expensive in the lot because of the base variant with 8 GB RAM.

This year has been for cautious upgrades. S23 and S23+ have a changed look. S23 Ultra is benefited from a 200-megapixel primary camera. All three phones get the benefit of Qualcomm Snapdragon Silicon worldwide.

So what to expect if you consider buying one of the three? Let us look at what is new with the Galaxy S23 series, including design changes, improved specs, and colors.

Samsung Galaxy S23 3 series: Display and Design

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series phones look almost identical to 2022 models with slight changes. The look of the S23 Ultra is mostly the same as its predecessor. It has the same frosted glass back but with the introduction of some new color choices. The camera configuration and shape look nearly identical, with a slighter flat display because of more petite curves on the side. The galaxy S23 Ultra is marginally wider, but the changes are not that noticeable compared to S22 Ultra.

Design wise, Galaxy S23 and S23+ interestingly ditched the contour cut designs for the camera cut out, dropping the camera bump on the back. Instead, both phones adopted the individual protruding lenses from the last two Ultra models. S23 and S23+ have rounded shapes, but the curvature change gives the model a slightly squarer look. Unfortunately, the Galaxy S22 case will not fit the Galaxy S23 and, if used, will result in a substantial unprotected area between the lenses, gathering scratches and dust.

Samsung’s choice to avoid any revolutionary look for this year may disappoint enthusiasts, but it is fresh for those who upgrade their device every 4 to 5 years. Moreover, it guarantees most S22 ultra owners no buyer’s regret.

There is no significant difference in weight or all over-dimension. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 makes the new phones more durable than the older ones. For water and dust resistance, the new model carries an IP68. The new models have the same displays as their predecessors. You will look at a 6.8 -inch panel for the Ultra model, a 6.6- inch panel for Galaxy S23+, and a 6.1 – inch display for the regular Galaxy S23.

All three phones use Samsung dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O panels. The welcoming change is that all three phones peak at 1,750 nits. The rest of the display specifications are identical to their respective counterparts.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series includes some significant changes to upgrade photography skills.

With a 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor and camera with macro mode abilities, S23 Ultra can capture vast detail throughout any scene. The 200MP sensor features 200 million 0.6-micrometer (μm) pixels using a 1/1.3-inch optical format. This sensor size is deployed in 108MP main smartphone cameras, allowing high-end smartphone users to have a high-resolution camera without having large camera bumps.

S23 Ultra offers the same periscope zoom sensors and 10MP telephoto as last year. The company relies on pixel binning technology termed Terea2pixel to translate massive shots into 50MP or 12MP images. This allows changing the pixel size according to the amount of light. This shall improve low-light photography even in the dark. Other advancements introduced in this following gen hardware include 8k video recording at 30 FPS. In addition, there is enhanced object-based Al detection.

Furthermore, Samsung’s new Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology enhances color reproduction and reduces overexposure. As a result, you will see fewer washed-out photographs snapped under bright lighting conditions.

S23 and S23+ have the same lens lineup as last year’s mobile phones. There is a 50 MP primary sensor, a 10MP telephoto lens that is capable of 3X optical zoom and up to 30X digital zoom, and a 12 MP Ultra-wide length capable of 120-degree shots. In addition, the selfie camera has upgraded from 10MP to a 12MP lens with super HDR support to ensure high-quality photos.

Battery Life and Charging Speed

The Galaxy S23 series packs a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor built on second-gen optimized 4nm technology and more recent ARM Cortex core generations.

The battery life of the S22 and S22+ was not great, but this year battery size of Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus gets raised by 200mAh However, the S23Ultra stayed the same. S23 comes with a battery with the model number EB-BS918BY with a rated capacity of 4,855mAh, resulting in a typical capacity of around 5,000mAh. The S22 Ultra had average battery life. The same applies to the S23 Ultra.

Galaxy S23+ comes with a battery with model number  EB-BS916ABY capacity of 4700 mAh. That is a 5% bump over its predecessor.

The most significant battery makers make the unit, China’s Amperex Technology Limited (ATL)

Charging remains at 45W maximum for S23 Ultra and S23+, which is faster than S23. The S23 is capped at 15W wireless and 25W wired charging speeds.

Internal hardware

Samsung is using a modified version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for all three phones in the Galaxy S23 series, regardless of where you buy it from. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Exynos 2200 chips; thus, the new phones are better in terms of performance.

 Software update

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series phones will get 4 major Android OS updates and up to 5 years of security updates. All three phones ship with the One UI 5.1 based on Android 13.
