PlayStation hosting State of Play correspondingly with Nintendo’s Direct

Sony announced it would host a PlayStation State of Play video presentation on Tuesday at 6 PM ET. The show will be 20 minutes long and cover games coming to PS5, PS4, and PSVR2.

The presentation is taking place ahead of Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off later this week. We all must look forward to 20 minutes of games.

This State of Play will feature “some great updates from our amazing Japanese partners, along with a few other surprises from developers worldwide,” Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Sid Shuman said in a blog post.

Tokyo Game Show, commonly known as TGS, is an annual video game expo/convention held in September in Chiba, Japan. The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association and Nikkei Business Publications, Inc present it. The show’s primary focus is Japanese games, but some global video game developers employ it to showcase upcoming releases/related hardware.

The course of the event is four days. The first two days of the Tokyo Game Show are available only to industry attendees (business), and the general public can follow during the final two days.

The first Tokyo Game Show was carried out in 1996. From 1996 to 2002, the show was performed twice a year: once in the Spring and once in Autumn. Since 2002, the exhibition has been organized once a year. It draws more visitors every year. 2011’s show hosted around 200,000 attendees; the 2012 show got in 223,753. The most happening TGS was in 2016 when 271,224 people attended and 614 companies exhibited. The event has been carried out annually since 1996 and was never canceled. The 20th anniversary of TGS was celebrated in 2016.

Tuesday swears to be a big day for video game news. Nintendo’s next big Direct event will be taking place just a few hours earlier at 10 AM ET, and Sony acknowledged the situation in a tweet replying to Nintendo’s Direct announcement.

Nintendo Direct is a string of online exhibitions or live shows produced by Nintendo, where details regarding the company’s upcoming content or franchises are presented, like games and consoles. The presentations started in Japan and North America, with the first edition on October 21, 2011, before extending to Europe, Australia, and South Korea.

Nintendo Direct expositions differ in format between various presentations and regions. For subjects of a general global appeal, a single Nintendo Direct is usually localized for a concurrent international broadcast. Usually, these will be documented in Japanese and delivered by a Japanese presenter. Before Nintendo president Satoru Iwata’s death, he would host Directs in both English and Japanese, with subtitled various language presentations. After Iwata’s death, Nintendo Directs did not acquire a global host until 2017.

Yoshiaki Koizumi from Nintendo EPD took over in 2018 and has shared this duty with Shinya Takahashi. In addition, E3 Directs sometimes featured Reggie Fils-Aime as an announcer for a brief period until his departure in 2019.
